A UNESCO-listed historic centre of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance stonework packed into a tiny island city.

Trogir is proof that a place does not need to be large to contain an extraordinary amount of history. Its historic centre occupies a small island where the street pattern still reflects ancient origins and centuries of Mediterranean urban life.

At the heart of the town stands the Cathedral of St Lawrence, whose celebrated Radovan Portal is one of the masterpieces of medieval Croatian art. Nearby are the city loggia, noble palaces and narrow streets marked by generations of stone masons. At the edge of the old town, the waterfront leads towards Kamerlengo Fortress, built during the Venetian period and today one of Trogir’s most recognisable landmarks.

Because the centre is so compact, Trogir is exceptionally suitable for a planned transfer stop. In an hour or two, travellers can experience a genuine historic city rather than simply seeing it through a car window.
