Why visit

Paklenica reveals a completely different side of the Croatian coast. Just inland from the sea, the southern slopes of Velebit are cut by the impressive canyons of Velika and Mala Paklenica, where towering limestone walls rise above forest, mountain streams and hiking paths.

Velika Paklenica is the most accessible introduction to the park and one of Croatia’s best-known climbing areas. Deeper into the landscape, trails lead towards mountain huts, high peaks and Manita peć, the park’s visitor-accessible cave. The contrast is what makes Paklenica unusual: Mediterranean coastline and serious mountain terrain exist only a short distance apart.

This is a destination for travellers who genuinely want time outdoors. Appropriate footwear, weather conditions and the chosen trail matter. Entry is arranged separately, and any SOVA stop should allow realistic time rather than treating the park as a quick photo opportunity.
