Why visit

A tiny historic island town set inside a sandy lagoon, surrounded by salt fields and shallow Adriatic beaches.

Nin is small in scale but unusually rich in history and landscape. Its old town sits on a low island inside a shallow lagoon, connected to the mainland by bridges and surrounded by salt fields, sandy shores and views towards Velebit.

The town played an important role in early Croatian history, while its compact centre preserves archaeological remains and historic churches within an area that is easy to explore on foot. Just outside the old town, the Nin Saltworks continue a tradition shaped by sun, sea and shallow coastal basins. The wider lagoon is also known for long sandy beaches, including the famous Queen’s Beach.

Nin makes a natural cultural stop on journeys around Zadar. It offers something quite different from the larger historic cities: a quiet combination of early Croatian heritage, salt-making traditions and an open lagoon landscape.
