A graceful historic harbour town south of Dubrovnik, with waterfront promenades, stone architecture and a calmer Adriatic atmosphere.

Cavtat occupies a sheltered bay on the Rat peninsula, where historic stone buildings, gardens and waterfront paths follow the shape of the sea. Known in antiquity as Epidaurus, the town later developed strong ties with the Dubrovnik Republic and became an important southern port.

Today Cavtat feels noticeably gentler than nearby Dubrovnik. Its harbour is lined with cafés and boats, while paths curve around wooded peninsulas with views across the bay. Historic houses, churches and cultural landmarks are integrated into a town that can still be explored comfortably on foot.

For travellers arriving through Dubrovnik Airport, Cavtat is particularly easy to include in a journey through southern Croatia. It can be a destination in its own right or a relaxed coastal pause before continuing towards Dubrovnik, Konavle or Montenegro.
